京都祇園の酒屋の酒蔵や土蔵を改修した住宅兼陶芸工房。既存の構造をそのまま活かし、必要部分のみ新しく補強した。酒蔵では、既存母屋の床の間の片持ち梁を支える束を挟み込む根太によって建物群に剛性を与え、その補強によって分節された新しい空間を生み出した。土蔵では、出窓空間をつくり閉じた狭い空間を裏庭とつなげて、広く明るい空間を生み出した。添え木のような改修工事を意図した計画。
El proyecto consiste en la rehabilitación de una antigua bodega de sake y un almacén en Gion, Kioto, para convertirlos en una vivienda con taller de cerámica. Se conservaron las estructuras existentes, reforzándolas únicamente en los puntos necesarios. En la bodega, las viguetas insertadas que sostienen la viga en voladizo del tokonoma (alcoba) de la casa principal aportan rigidez al conjunto de los edificios y, al mismo tiempo, generan nuevos espacios a partir de dicha intervención estructural. En el almacén, la creación de un mirador permitió conectar el espacio interior, antes cerrado y estrecho, con el jardín trasero, dando lugar a un ambiente más amplio y luminoso. La intervención se concibió como una “obra de apoyo”, una reparación suave que refuerza y acompaña la estructura existente, como un puntal de madera que la sostiene con discreción.
This project renovates a former sake brewery and storehouse in Gion, Kyoto, transforming them into a combined residence and ceramics studio. The existing structures were largely preserved, with new reinforcements added only where necessary. In the sake brewery, the inserted joists that support the cantilever beam of the main house’s alcove (tokonoma) strengthen the overall rigidity of the building complex, while simultaneously generating new spatial divisions through their structural intervention. In the storehouse, a bay window was added to connect the previously closed and narrow interior with the rear garden, creating a brighter and more open space. The renovation was conceived as a kind of “bracing intervention,” adding gentle structural and spatial support like a wooden prop that quietly sustains what already exists.
