京都の西陣にある大正元年建築の元呉服屋であった町家を、この家に住む家族の為の住居と宿泊施設が共存する町家へと改修した計画。100坪を超える住居スペースを縮小し、母屋には住居スペースに加えて二つの客室を、離れの土蔵に一つの客室を新たに加えた。床が張られて閉じていた吹抜けの土間部分をベンチや本棚を備えたシェアスペースとして再現し、住人や宿泊客の交流の場を計画した。
El proyecto consiste en la renovación de una machiya tradicional situada en Nishijin, Kioto, construida originalmente en 1912 (primer año de la era Taishō) como tienda de kimonos, para transformarla en una vivienda que combina el uso residencial de la familia con un pequeño alojamiento para huéspedes. La superficie residencial original, de más de 330 metros cuadrados (más de 100 tsubo), se redujo, incorporando en la casa principal dos habitaciones para huéspedes y una tercera en el almacén anexo de tierra apisonada (kura). El espacio central con suelo de tierra (doma), que anteriormente estaba cubierto y cerrado, se recuperó como un área compartida equipada con bancos y estanterías, concebida como un lugar de encuentro entre los residentes y los visitantes.
This project renovates a traditional machiya townhouse in Nishijin, Kyoto, originally built in 1912 (the first year of the Taishō era) as a kimono shop, into a residence that coexists with guest accommodation for the family who lives there. The original living area of over 330 square meters (more than 100 tsubo) was reduced in size, and in addition to the family’s living quarters, two guest rooms were added in the main house and another in the detached earthen storehouse (kura). The central earthen-floored doma space, which had been previously covered and closed off, was restored as a shared area equipped with benches and bookshelves — creating a place for interaction between residents and guests.
