京都岡崎南禅寺近くの小さなアパートの改修。居間食堂・和室・寝室の3つの居室からなる。それぞれの居室はＴ字型の設備・収納スペースによって隔てられているが、建具を中央の戸袋の中に仕舞うことで、バルコニーからの自然光がアパート全体に取り込まれ、重層的に広がりを持つ一体的な空間が現れる。和室と寝室の間の中間的領域には、水平な天板を設け、建具を開くと遠くの外を見ながら読書や思索にふけることができる書院のような場所、あるいは寝室側から腰掛けとして座れるような場所とした。また、このアパートは最上階に位置しているため、水回りの上部に隠れた屋根裏収納部屋が存在していた。この屋根裏を水平に大きく開き、居室と斜めに繋ぐことで、アパート全体に水平だけではなく垂直の奥行きと連続性を与えた。既存のアパートの隠れた可能性を最大限生かし、広がりのある豊かな空間が生まれている。
Renovación de un pequeño apartamento cerca del templo Nanzen-ji en Okazaki, Kioto. Consta de tres espacios habitables: un salón-comedor combinado, una habitación de estilo japonés y un dormitorio. Cada espacio está separado por zonas de servicio y almacenamiento en forma de T. Sin embargo, al ocultar las puertas en un hueco central, la luz natural del balcón impregna todo el apartamento, creando un espacio unificado con una calidad expansiva y en capas. En la zona intermedia entre la habitación de estilo japonés y el dormitorio, se instaló una mesa horizontal. Cuando se abren las puertas, este espacio funciona como una zona de estudio donde se puede leer o contemplar el paisaje mientras se mira a lo lejos, o bien sirve como una zona de descanso tipo banco accesible desde el lado del dormitorio. Además, como este apartamento ocupa la última planta, existía un trastero oculto en el ático, encima de las zonas húmedas. Al abrir este ático horizontalmente y conectarlo en diagonal con la sala de estar, el apartamento gana no solo profundidad horizontal, sino también vertical y continuidad. Aprovechar al máximo el potencial oculto del apartamento existente ha creado un espacio rico y amplio.
Renovation of a small apartment near Nanzen-ji Temple in Kyoto’s Okazaki district. It consists of three living spaces: a living-dining room, a Japanese-style room, and a bedroom. Each room is separated by T-shaped utility and storage spaces. However, by storing the doors within a central pocket, natural light from the balcony floods the entire apartment, creating a unified space with a layered, expansive quality. In the intermediate area between the Japanese-style room and the bedroom, a horizontal tabletop was installed. When the doors are opened, this space functions like a study where one can read or ponder while gazing at the distant view outside, or as a place to sit on a low stool from the bedroom side. Furthermore, as this apartment occupies the top floor, a hidden attic storage room existed above the wet areas. By opening this attic horizontally and connecting it diagonally to the living space, the apartment gains not only horizontal but also vertical depth and continuity. Maximizing the hidden potential of the existing apartment has created a rich, expansive space.
